What kind of mountain is it and how high is it?
Pip Ivan is one of the highest peaks of Montenegro, 2028 meters. It stands on the southeastern edge of the main ridge, on the border of Ivano-Frankivsk region and Transcarpathia.
What are those ruins at the top?
This is an old Polish astronomical and meteorological observatory, which was nicknamed the White Elephant because of its white silhouette. Part has already been restored for tourists, so there is a place to hide from the wind.
How to get there?
There are several marked trails - most often from Zembroni or Šibeny. Depending on the route, it will take from two to six hours.
Is it hard to get up and when is it best to go?
There is a forest at the bottom, and stone screes closer to the top, so you need to protect your feet. The best time is from May to August; in winter, the mountain is also beautiful in its own way, but only for those who are prepared.
Where did this name come from?
According to one legend, the rock on the top resembled the figure of a priest, according to another - the wind here is so loud that it seems as if someone is humming ('singing'). The old name is Black Mountain, known at least since the 17th century.
