What is Marycheyka and at what height is she?
This is a small mountain lake of glacial origin in Montenegro, on the northeastern slope of Mount Shuryn, at an altitude of about 1,510 m above sea level.
How big and deep is it?
Don't expect to swim: the lake is about 88 m long, 45 m wide, and the maximum depth is 0.8 m - i.e. knee-deep. The water is fresh and clean, but the bottom is muddy.
How to get to the lake?
The nearest village is Yavornyk. The lake lies in the southern part of the Carpathian National Nature Park, so you can get here on foot along mountain paths.
What is interesting nearby?
To the northwest of the lake rises Pip Ivan (Chorna Hora) - one of the highest peaks of Montenegro, 2022 m. Around the lake there are subalpine meadows, sedge, spruce forest and mountain pine.
When is the best time to go?
The warm half of the year, from late spring to early autumn, when the trails of Montenegro are free of snow. The lake is fed by underground water and precipitation, and its outflow flows to the Pogorilets River.
