FAQFrequently asked questions

What kind of lake is this and where is it?

Nesamovyte is a small mountain lake in Montenegro, on the slopes of Mount Turkul, at an altitude of 1,750 m. It lies within the boundaries of the Carpathian National Nature Park, in the Nadvirny District of Ivano-Frankivsk Region.

How big is it?

Not really. It is about 88 meters long and 45 meters wide, and the depth over the entire area is only 1-1.5 m - that is, it is more of a lake than a lake. It is of glacial origin and lies in the crust.

Why such a name and legend about rain?

Locals believed that the lake controls the weather: throw a stone into the water or take a bath - and it will definitely rain. So if the sky is clear, it is better not to tempt fate. The lake was even called the eye of the sea, with which it is supposedly connected underground.

Are there fish there?

There is no fish. Instead, newts live, a pond frog from the Red Book, small crustaceans and one rare algae. So you won't be able to fish, but there is something to look around.

What should a tourist remember?

The lake suffers from the influx of visitors - bonfires, garbage, trampling. Stick to the approved trails, do not light fires in the open air and take your trash with you. And yes, do not throw pebbles into the water - at least for the sake of the weather.
