FAQFrequently asked questions

What is the Grand Teton and how high is it?

It is the highest peak of the Titon Range in the Rocky Mountains, at 4,199 meters (13,775 ft). It stands in the northwest of the state of Wyoming, USA, and gave its name to the national park around it.

How to get to the foot of the mountain?

The nearest city is Jackson in Wyoming. From there, the path leads through the trail from the Lupine Meadows trailhead into Garnet Canyon and on to Lower Saddle, where the climbs usually start.

When is the best time to go?

Summer and early autumn - from June to September. Then it snows and the weather behaves more or less decently for climbing.

Is it possible to climb to the top without mountaineering experience?

The classic Owen-Spalding route has a category of 5.4 and is regularly climbed by people without previous experience. But it is still recommended to have mountain experience - the mountain does not forgive frivolity.

Where did this name come from?

Téton in French means a rather spicy part of a woman's body - this is how French travelers named the mountain. And the first conquest is still disputed: whether it was the expedition of 1872, or William Owen's team in 1898, which definitely reached the top.
