Zion National Park
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Zion and where is it located?
This is a national park in the southwest of the state of Utah (USA), near the town of Springdale. The main star is the Zion Canyon, which the Virgin River carved into the Navajo sandstone to a depth of about 800 meters.
How to get there and is it possible to drive in?
From April to October, the entry of personal cars into the canyon is limited, so free shuttles are used. But you won't have to look for a place to park - just sit down and go.
When is the best time to go?
Winter and spring are usually the most pleasant for walks. In the summer, the park is taken by storm - about 3.6 million visitors a year know the way no worse than you.
What to see and do?
The classics are the Angels Landing trail and the narrow passage of The Narrows, only six meters wide, where the walls literally squeeze overhead. Also check out Checkerboard Mesa and Kolob Canyons in the northern part of the park.
Any interesting tidbits?
The park was founded in 1919, and at first in 1909 it was called Mukuntuweap - the name did not catch on, so it was changed to Zion. There is also a tunnel from 1930 with six large windows cut right into the rock.
