What is Uzhok and where is it?
This is a mountain village in Transcarpathia, near the Uzhotsky Pass, at an altitude of about 567 meters. Right here, in the mountains, the Uzh River originates - in fact, the village got its name from it.
What to see in Uzhko?
The main decoration is the wooden church of St. Michael of 1745, in which Boykiv and Lemkiv building traditions were mixed. Nearby - the Uzhochsky Pass with monuments and military burials from the times of both world wars.
Is there mineral water here?
Yes, and even with history: once there was a spa with baths, and the springs had respectable names - Hercules, Laszlo, Bela and Marcha. Today, three of them are under guard.
When is the best time to come?
From the end of spring to the beginning of autumn - then the mountains are at their best, and the path to the pass is easily covered on foot.
Is this village big?
Not really. About 722 people are registered, but about half a thousand live here permanently. By the way, Uzhok is considered the easternmost village of Lemkivshchyna.
