Chyhenitra
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Chigenitra?
This is a gorge with a pass of the same name on the southeastern edge of Karaba-Yaila in the Main Range of the Crimean Mountains. The Chigenitra-Bogaz pass itself lies at an altitude of 1044 m, between the Yayla massif and the eastern spur of Lapata-Khai.
How to get there?
Tourist routes No. 175 and No. 25 of the stage of the Great Crimean Trail pass through the gorges. The nearest landmark from below is the village of Rybache, which is approximately 8 km to the south.
What is interesting to see on the way?
The ancient walls of Tash-Duvar have been preserved on the pass - they are considered one of the Long Walls, which Procopius also mentioned. On the western slope there is the Ful Koba cave, and in the upper reaches there are two seasonal ponds.
What is special about the local nature?
The area has an active karst and is part of the geological reserve "Mountain Karst of Crimea". The source of Suuk-Su - the outflow of the Alachuk River - is right here, so there are usually no problems with water on the route.
Is it worth setting aside time for an overnight stay?
Yes, there is a tourist site with the same name, so the gorge is convenient as an intermediate point for a multi-day Karaba hike, and not just for a round trip.
