Kjeragbolten
FAQFrequently asked questions
What kind of stone is this and where is it?
Hjeragbolten is a rounded boulder with a volume of about 5 cubic meters, which is stuck in a crack between the rocks on the Hjerag plateau in the Norwegian region of Rugalann, near Løse Fjord. That is, he is not standing on the ground, but literally wedged above the abyss.
How high and is it scary to get there?
The plateau itself rises more than 1,000 meters, and a gorge with a depth of about 984 meters gapes under the stone. There is almost a kilometer of emptiness underfoot, so the photos turn out spectacular, but the knees are not very sure.
How to get there?
On foot. The trail starts from the parking lot and leads through the mountains - with waterfalls, steep climbs and descents. Allow about 4-6 hours for the trip there and back.
Where did he come from?
The stone remained after glacial erosion during the last ice age. The glacier worked, retreated, and the boulder hung in the gap.
Who goes here but selfie lovers?
Base jumpers. The height and the chasm above the fjord attract those who jump with a parachute from the cliff. The rest is limited to a picture on the stone itself - Instagram knows this site by face.
