Låtefossen
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Lotefoss and what makes it special?
This is a waterfall in Ullensvang municipality in western Norway, 165 meters high. The trick is that two streams fall from Lake Lotevatnet at once, which meet somewhere in the middle and then fly together.
What is this bridge just under the waterfall?
Old stone bridge with six arches, built in 1867-69. National road 13 passes through it, so you can drive past the waterfall literally under the spray - the view is impressive and wet at the same time.
How to get there?
The easiest way is by car along national road 13: it passes right by the waterfall, the stop is just on the side of the road. There is a place for tourists nearby, so you won't have to look for detours.
When is the best time to come?
It is most spectacular in spring and early summer, when the snow melts and the stream is full. The average flow of water here is about 17 cubic meters per second, but in dry periods the waterfall is quieter.
How much time to lay down for a stop?
Це класична придорожня зупинка на 15-30 хвилин: вийти, зробити кілька кадрів і відчути водяний пил. If you are driving along the fjords of western Norway, Lotefoss is conveniently located on the way.
