What kind of redwood is it and what is it famous for?
This is an evergreen coniferous tree of the cypress family - and the tallest plant on the planet. The record holder named Hyperion stretches for 115.5 meters, so you will have to stretch your neck a lot.
Where to look for it?
A thin strip along the Pacific coast - from northern California to Oregon. It does not grow far from the sea: it needs a humid climate, so you will not find it further than 30-50 km from the coast.
How long does such a tree live?
Calmly passes over a thousand years, and the oldest is about 2200. Individual specimens last more than 3000 years - human generations change, and it grows.
How does she survive forest fires?
The bark is up to 30 cm thick, soft and fibrous, and there is little resin in the wood, so it absorbs moisture rather than ignites. It is said that redwood houses even survived the San Francisco fire of 1906.
What fables are associated with it?
The trunk is often 6-7 meters across, and according to legend, an orchestra and 16 pairs of dancers were placed on the stump of a felled giant. One tree was once sawn for 17 days, and it took 30 railway platforms to transport it.
