Tetnuldi
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Tetnuld and how tall is it?
This is a two-headed peak in the Main Caucasus Range with a height of 4852 meters. The name in Georgian simply means "white mountain" - and it is right, because there is enough snow and ice here.
Where is he located?
In Upper Svaneti in northern Georgia, a couple of kilometers south of nearby Gestola. The nearest settlement is Mestia, about 22 km to the west.
How difficult is it to climb?
By alpinist standards, this climb is of medium difficulty - not a walk, but also not nearby Ushba, which is climbed only by the well-prepared. The first to climb the peak was in 1887, a team of Austrian climbers led by Douglas Freshfield.
What is interesting about Tetnuld, besides the height?
The mountain is composed of ancient crystalline rocks and has an almost perfect pyramidal shape from any side. Glaciers with a total area of about 46 square kilometers slide from here, feeding the Inguri River.
