What is Halde and where to find it?
This is a tiny mountain village in Svaneti, in the municipality of Mestia in northwestern Georgia. It is hidden high in the Caucasus, so prepare for serpentines and views.
At what height is the village?
About 1900 meters above sea level. Breathing is a little harder, but the panoramas are worth it.
How many people live there?
According to the 2014 census - as many as three. Silence here is not a metaphor, but a literal state of affairs.
What is interesting to see?
The main attraction is the ruins of old Halde with Svan buildings. Stone, mountains and the feeling that time stopped here several centuries ago.
When is the best time to go?
Svaneti is a highland, so the warm season from late spring to early autumn is the safest. In winter, mountain roads are not for the faint of heart.
