Tai Koba

Tai Koba

One of my favorite places in Crimea is the top of Tai Koba. This is the highest point of the Karabi plateau (1259 meters). From here you have an excellent view of the coast (from Meganom to Ayu-Dag) and the surrounding mountains (Demerdzhi, Tyrke, Chatyr Dag).  Of particular note is the view of the lower Karabi plateau. Just looking at it from Tai-Koba, you will understand why the grassy Karabi is called the “lunar landscape”. From above, stone waves and countless karst sinkholes covering the entire plateau become visible.

But to enjoy this beauty, you first need to climb Tai Koba itself. This can be done from the side of the Ai-Alexiy tourist parking lot. A dirt road passes through it, connecting the village of Generalskoye and the Karabi Plateau. Huge trucks regularly drive along the road (carrying excursions to Karabi). Therefore, you can safely follow the tracks of the wheels - they will lead you to the top. Of course, the presence of excursionists is not very pleasing to tourists who honestly climbed Tai Kobu on their own, but what can you do - you have to abstract yourself. Thank God that there were no cafes here like on Ai-Petri. The road approaches the mountain from the west and ends just 100 meters from the top. By the way, at the top of Tai Koba there is a metal triangulation pyramid. Therefore, you should not be here in the rain - there is a high probability of being struck by lightning.

Karabi Plateau, Tai Koba off-screen on the rightAfter admiring the landscape, you can continue your way to the east and go down to the lower plateau in the area of the “2nd descent” pass or visit the neighboring peak of Kara Tau. It is only 2 kilometers away, but the paths there are overgrown and the terrain is very rough. Therefore, the journey from Tai Koba to Kara Tau will take you about an hour. By the way, Kara Tau translated from Tatar means Black Mountain, and the second name of Tai Koba is White Mountain.

If you are afraid to go to Tai Kobu yourself, you can join one of our hikes. We often visit this peak, because... its visit is included in the program of the “Water and Stones” route.
