FAQFrequently asked questions

What is Alsou and where is it?

This is an ancient village above Chornorichansky Canyon, nine kilometers east of Balaklava, at an altitude of 270 meters. In 1948, it was renamed to Morozovka, but the old name Alsu did not go anywhere.

How old is it?

The settlement appeared here somewhere in the middle of the 4th century - it was founded by the descendants of the Goths and Alans, who mixed with the local people. And in the written sources of Also, it was mentioned for the first time as far back as 1634, in the Ottoman tax lists.

Are there many people there now?

Almost nobody: according to the 2014 census, only 44 people lived here. Once the village was more populous, but the deportation of 1944 and subsequent relocations took their toll.

What is interesting to see nearby?

Nearby passes the so-called Manshtein road through the Chornorichansky Canyon - it was laid by the Germans in the winter of 1942, and now it is a tourist attraction. And in the village itself there is a monastery that received the status of stauropygium in 2010.
