What is Wadi Ram?
This is the largest desert valley in Jordan - about 720 square meters. km of sandstone and granite with rocks sticking out of the sand like scenery for a fantasy. Since 2011, it has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
How to get here?
Wadi Ram lies in southern Jordan, about 60 km east of Aqaba, not far from the Saudi border. Tourists usually drive to the visitor center, and then Bedouin 4x4 jeeps or camels - an ordinary car is no help in the sand.
When is the best time to go?
A desert is a desert: the average temperature in summer is about 34 degrees, so it is wiser to plan from October to April, when it is not so hot. Rains are scarce, and they are mainly showers.
What to see and do here?
Climbing along old Bedouin trails and hundreds of modern routes, jeep tours through the valley, camel rides, ancient Nabatean and prehistoric petroglyphs and overnight in a Bedouin camp under the stars. The highest point nearby is Mount Jabal Ram, 1,734 m, the second highest in Jordan.
What is this place known for outside of tourism?
The local landscapes are regularly played by other planets in movies: "Lawrence of Arabia", "Dune", "The Martian", "Rebel. Star Wars. Stories" and "John Wick 4" were filmed here. And the real TE Lawrence really traveled these places in 1917-18.
