What is the Dead Sea and why is it impossible to drown in it?
This is a bottomless salt lake on the border of Israel, Jordan and Palestine, and not a sea in the usual sense. Salt makes up about a third of the water content, so it pushes the body to the surface - here you'd rather lie on the water with a newspaper than swim.
Where is it and what is special about its location?
Lies in the Jordan rift, and its shores are the lowest land point on the planet. The surface of the water is somewhere 420 meters below sea level, it does not happen below.
What are the dimensions of the lake?
About 67 km long and 18 km wide, with an average depth of about 120 meters. The area is about 605 square kilometers, although it is slowly decreasing.
Why do people come here, apart from swimming?
For minerals - water and black mud have long been used for wellness procedures, so people come to be smeared with mud from head to toe. The effect on the amateur, but the tradition is old.
Is it true that the sea is drying up?
Yes, the water level is steadily falling. The lake is fed mainly by the Jordan River and has no drain, and the water remains less and less over the years, so the landscape here is not eternal.
