Baja California Peninsula
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Baja California and where is it anyway?
This is the northernmost state of Mexico on the California Peninsula. In the north it rests on the border with the USA (the same state of California), in the west it is washed by the Pacific Ocean, and in the east by the Gulf of California.
Through which cities do they come here?
The largest city is Tijuana near the border, next to San Diego. The capital is Mexicali. And on the Pacific coast stands the port city of Ensenada.
Where to find beaches and water?
The coast here is immediately on two sides - the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Gulf of California to the east. Popular spots include Playas de Rosarito and San Felipe.
What is the climate like here and what to prepare for?
The climate is semi-desert, with dry hot summers. Take a bottle of water with you - the desert doesn't understand jokes.
What is interesting besides the beaches?
Contrasts: desert plains are adjacent to mountainous regions, and the resort bustle of Tijuana - with quiet ports. Baja California became a state of Mexico in 1952, before that it was just a federal territory.
