The weather forecast for the May holidays this year is disappointing - the spring has been cold and rainy and will remain so. In Karapaty it is wet, daytime temperatures are +10, at night they drop to -1. In Turkey on the May holidays it is much warmer +25, but there is also some chance of rain.
In general, the weather is quite standard for the May holidays. Another thing is that we would like something else (warmth, sun and bright greenery). And it is quite possible that all this will come, there is enough time. Let's hope so, and in the meantime, we'll prepare our skis:)
The point is that when going to the mountains for the May holidays, you adjust your wardrobe. For example, for warmer hikes, I usually recommend running shoes. But this year, it seems to me that waterproof hiking boots will be more appropriate.
A warm, winter sleeping bag (weight at least 1.5 kg, comfort temperature -5) and good thermal underwear (100% synthetic or wool) would also be appropriate. A hat, gloves and warm knitted socks will help you feel like a man when the sun sets and the evening cool envelops the camp.
There is no question of going on a May hike without a reliable raincoat and a backpack cover. For some reason, many people forget about the protection of a backpack, relying on its moisture resistance. This is fundamentally wrong - an unprotected backpack will get wet through and become 2 times heavier (no matter what the store salesperson tells you about its durability)
Thus, the motto of the May holidays could be the phrase “Protect yourself and insulate yourself.” If you pay due attention to your preparations and carefully choose your clothes and equipment, then no weather can interfere with your plans for the upcoming holidays.
P.s. I do not at all pretend to the reliability of the forecasts. Moreover, in some places I exaggerate things too much in order for hikers to take a more responsible approach to preparing and choosing routes.
