Kyz-Kermen - Maiden's Fortress

There are few cave structures on Kyz-Kermen: several basements of residential buildings carved into the rock and the remains of fortifications in the eastern part of the steep slope. The discovered remains of buildings show that the defensive walls were especially massive on the northern side, where the slope is most vulnerable to attackers. On the eastern part of the plateau, traces of a gate have been preserved, and in the western part of the citadel, there was probably a gate, since traces of a carved staircase have been preserved here and there on the rock terraces.

During the excavations, the remains of two houses and five grape presses were discovered. Built in the 6th century. the fortress ceased to exist in the 9th century, apparently after the Khazar assault. The location and period of existence of the fortress allow some researchers to assume that Kyz-Kermen is the mysterious Fulla fortress mentioned in Byzantine sources.
