Answers to frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Should I go to the mountains? How to prepare for a hike? Which route to choose?... Even experienced travelers have a lot of questions before a new trip. And that's great! The more questions you ask at the preparation stage, the fewer problems you will have later on the route. This article contains typical questions and answers about our tours. Read them and don't hesitate to ask yourself. We provide free consultations to all tourists.

What level of training is required to participate in the hike?

Our hikes are on foot - to participate you only need to be able to walk. Everything else (putting up a tent, making a fire and telling incredible stories) can be learned during the hike. No special equipment or equipment is used - we just walk along mountain trails.

On the other hand, this does not mean that it will be completely easy and simple for you. On the first day, out of habit, it may even seem to you that the hike is very difficult. But within a day you will be drawn into the rhythm of camping life and feel a surge of strength.

What about physical fitness? Can I handle it?

Get over it! On the way, we carefully monitor the condition of the hikers and adjust the loads in accordance with their abilities. The hiking plan is not a dogma, and if we need to go twice as slow and rest twice as often, we will do so. However, you will have to sweat. If you are ready for this and you don’t have medical contraindications, welcome to the mountains!

Already know the composition of the group? Who will be there?

Very common question. Think about it, who goes on such trips?
People who are tired of the city want to get out into nature, but do not have enough experience or the right company to travel on their own.
Most of our tourists work in an office (many IT specialists), actively use the Internet, live in the capital or a large city, can read and write, love nature and are generally good people.
Bad people don't go hiking, they have other entertainment.

And yet, what is the composition: number of participants, average age?

Are you afraid of not fitting into the company? Don't worry, everything will be fine. Overcoming difficulties together works wonders - already on the second day of the hike you will have the impression that you have known these people for an eternity.

Based on the experience of past trips, I will say that the composition is almost unpredictable in everything, except for one thing - the people gathered are good and interesting. Group size: minimum 3 people, maximum 15, average 10.

At what age can children participate in hikes?

There is no clear answer to this question. If we are talking about short (2-3 days) summer trips, then, in our opinion, parents can safely take children from 7 years old there. According to my observations, children adapt to camping conditions much easier than adults, the main thing is that they have a worthy example to follow.  In addition, much depends not on age, but on behavior, health, etc. Therefore, it is best to try, first, a weekend hike near your city. And then, if he likes it, take the child on long hikes.

Do you need to book your seats in advance?

Yes, in advance. Registration for simple tours ends 3-4 days before the start. But don't leave your application until the last minute. You may simply not have enough places in the group. In addition, we need to take you into account when purchasing products and preparing rental equipment. So write to us right away (it’s free) - there will be more time to discuss the issues that interest you. And if you change your mind later, simply cancel the application.

Money issues

When and how does payment occur?

For all tours, payment is made in two stages. First, prepayment (from 15 to 30%) - to reserve a place in the group. You pay the rest of the tour cost directly during the trip, at a personal meeting with the guide. You can pay in any currency, at the commercial rate.

Are discounts possible?

Of course - we have discounts for children, large groups of tourists and also tourists with guitars and literary talents. Even if you don't belong to any of these categories, don't be upset - just write in more detail about yourself and we'll come up with something for you.

What additional costs are possible during the hike?

Karpaty - the main expense item here is moving from the Ivano-Frankivsk station to the mountains and back. In total, this costs at least 300 hryvnia. On some routes you need to pay to enter the reserve - about 20 hryvnia per person.

Overseas trips - here there can be a lot of additional expenses: from air tickets to porters for luggage. To find out all the details, just call us.

Meals on the hike

How will we eat?

In the morning and evening we will make a fire (or use a burner), prepare porridge and soups, and of course brew excellent mountain tea. In the afternoon - a small snack: sandwiches, etc. Believe me, there is nothing tastier than food cooked over a fire, especially after a whole day of traveling in the fresh air. If you are interested in details, one of the options is our hiking menu

Who buys groceries?

All basic products for the hike are purchased by the instructor. If you want, you can additionally stock up on some dried fruits or sweets to refresh yourself at rest during the day. For some foreign tours, we practice distributing purchases among tour participants, with subsequent refunds.

Who carries the food?

The tour participants carry the products in their backpacks. During the group meeting, the instructor distributes food among tourists. The average is about 4 kg per person (for a 6-day hike). Men get a little more, women less.

Where will we get water?

The routes are designed so that every day we encounter mountain springs of the purest water. We will carry a small supply of drinking water throughout the day (approximately 1.5 liters per person).

How do you feel about alcohol?

We are categorically against the use of alcohol and any other drugs while camping.

Life

Will it be possible to wash while hiking?

As I wrote above, there will be sources every day. Firewood too. Accordingly, it will be possible to heat water on the fire and wash. The main thing is to want to do it.

In addition, usually several times during a hike we pass by bodies of water (mountain rivers and lakes). Most often they are not deep and cool, but that doesn’t stop anyone:)

Will there be mobile communication?

On remote routes it can be difficult to “get a connection”, but several times during the hike you will be able to do this, most often from the top. Since we are on the peaks during the day and spend the night in the valleys, you will most likely have the opportunity to call in the middle of the day. The rest of the time it is better to keep the phone turned off (so as not to drain the battery). Don't promise your family back home a daily call back. In some cases this is unrealistic due to a poor connection, in some cases you simply do not have the energy (time) to talk.

Will it be possible to recharge the batteries of a mobile phone or camera?

Don't count on a power outlet in the mountains. It’s better to take a power bank with you, take care of spare batteries and don’t forget to switch your phone to offline mode.

Do you have other routes?

Yes, the full database of our tours. In addition, we can develop any route at your request. Any region, any complexity and duration.

Where and when does the group meet?

The time and place of gathering is set a few days before the hike, when the final composition of the group and the arrival time of all participants are already known. It is advisable to arrive in the first half of the day (before 10 am) so that we have time to get out of populated areas before evening. The meeting point for Carpathian hikes is the Ivano-Frankivsk railway station. It is advisable to send a photo so that the guide can recognize you. Be sure to write down the instructor's phone number!

On your website it is written “You should not take axes or saws with you.” Why?

If you need a saw or a torch on the route, the instructor will definitely take them. But in most cases there is no such need - there is enough brushwood lying on the ground so that we can cook food and just sit by the fire. That's why we prefer collecting. Trees in the mountains are already rare - there is no need to cut them down.
