Uchan-Su
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Uchansu and what makes it special?
This is a waterfall on the river of the same name on the southern slopes of the Crimean Mountains. The height is 98 meters, so it is the highest waterfall in Crimea. The Crimean Tatar name literally means 'flying water', and it's an honest description.
How to get there?
The waterfall is located 7 km from Yalta, about halfway to Mount Ai-Petri, at an altitude of about 390 meters. The road to Ai-Petri passes by it, so you won't miss it.
When is the best time to come?
In the spring, when the snow melts on the peaks of Ai-Petri. That's when the water flies at full speed, and the waterfall has the appearance for which people come here.
Is there anything to see in the summer?
In the summer, the flow noticeably weakens, because there is no more snow, and it is fed mainly by meltwater from the mountains. That is, you can come, but there will be much less "flying water".
What else to see nearby?
The nearest big attraction is Mount Ai-Petri itself, to which the same road leads. It is quite logical to combine the waterfall and the climb to Ai-Petri in one route.
