Tisa
FAQFrequently asked questions
Where does the Yew tree begin and how long is it?
The Yew is born a little above Rakhov, where the Black and White Yew merge. If we count from the source of the Black Tisza, it reaches about 1015 km - that is, it is not a stream, but a serious Carpathian river.
Where does the Tisza flow and where does it end?
It passes through five countries - Ukraine, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Serbia - and finally flows into the Danube near Serbian Novi Sad. That is, the Carpathian water eventually reaches Serbia.
What cities are on the Tisza in the Ukrainian part?
Rakhiv, Tyachiv, Khust and Chop are strung along the stream. It is convenient to combine rafting or a walk with a view of the cities themselves, and not just look at the water.
What is the Tisza interesting for nature lovers?
The floodplains of the river hold a rich flora and fauna. A special feature is the annual flowering of the Tisza, when insects emerge en masse over the water; a sight for which some specially come.
How big is the river in scale?
The Tisza Basin is about 157,000 square kilometers, and the average flow is 800 cubic meters per second. Most of the current is navigable, so there is plenty of water here.
