Eklizi-Burun

This is the highest point of the Chatyr-Dag massif in the Crimean Mountains, 1527 meters. That is, there is nothing higher than it from the entire plateau.

The collective name: the Greek word meaning church, plus the Crimean Tatar "burun" - Cape. It turns out something like "Church Cape", and this is not accidental.

Once upon a time, the Greek church of Panagia stood here, to which people went up to pray once a year. After the resettlement of Christians in 1778, the church was destroyed, so today only ruins remain. The remains of a medieval fortification of the 6th century were also found nearby.

A few steps from the top, at an altitude of about 1,500 meters, opens the Ecclesi-Koba - the highest cave in Crimea. A convenient reason not to limit yourself to the climb itself.

The peak belongs to the Main Range of the Crimean Mountains and is part of the Chatyr-Dag plateau. From here you can easily read the surrounding terrain - it is easier to navigate the terrain when you are standing at the highest point of the massif.
