What is Faralya and where is it?
This is a small village (now Fethiye district) in the Turkish province of Mugla, at an altitude of about 440 meters above sea level. The old name is Uzunyurt, so don't be surprised if you see it on road signs.
What is Faralya interesting for a traveler?
The main trump card is that the village sits right above the Butterfly Valley (Kelebekler Vadisi), one of the most famous canyons of the coast. There are also ruins from Lycian and Roman times nearby, so the surroundings easily turn into a whole route.
How to get there?
Focus on Fethiye - it is about 25 km away, and Oludeniz beach is about 10 km away. From there you go uphill to the village itself.
Is Faralya interesting for pedestrians?
Yes, the Lycian Way passes through the village - one of the most famous hiking routes in Turkey. The descent from here to Butterfly Valley is steep, so comfortable shoes will definitely be needed.
Why is the village so quiet despite its fame?
Once more than a thousand people lived here, but the population has noticeably decreased - now it is a few hundred residents. It is this silence that makes Faralya a pleasant contrast to the noisy resorts below.
