What is Scaret and where is it?
Xcaret is a private ecological and archaeological park on the Riviera Maya, in the state of Quintana Roo in Mexico. It is a mixture of a nature park, a water park and an open-air museum with Mayan ruins - all in one.
How to get there?
The park is located on Highway 307 about 75 km south of Cancun and just 4 miles from Playa del Carmen, so it's a short drive from both resorts.
What can you see and do there?
You can swim in underground rivers and cenotes, snorkel over the reef, look at jaguars, manatees, butterflies and sea turtles, and also wander through a reconstructed Mayan village with real artisans.
What is this evening show?
The highlight of the program is the Xcaret Mexico Espectacular in the Gran Tlachco Theater for 6,000 spectators. A two-hour performance, more than 300 actors, Mexican folklore and even an ancient ball game - all the cultural code of the country in one performance.
What is an interesting fact worth knowing?
The park opened back in December 1990, and in 2018 it received the Liseberg Applause Award - a kind of industry award for theme parks. In addition, there is a nesting place for sea turtles.
