Semuc Champey
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Semuk-Champey and where to find it?
This is a series of limestone cascades and shallow natural pools on the Cahabón River in Guatemala, in the Alta Verapaz District. Water has eaten away the limestone over the years - hence the terraces with pools.
Why did all these pools form here?
The Cahabon River flows through limestone rocks and gradually erodes them. This is how rapids and bowls appeared, in which tourists now like to bathe.
Is it easy to get here?
Not really - the place is known for its difficult access. Semuk-Champey is usually taken as part of an excursion, the road is not easy, but it does not frighten those who are willing.
What to do here?
First of all, swimming - pools seem to be created for this. And you can also combine the trip with a tour of the ancient Mayan city nearby and make it a full-fledged outing.
