FAQFrequently asked questions

What is Bozburun and where is it?

This is a mountainous peninsula in southwestern Turkey, in the province of Mugla near Marmaris. It got its name from the town of the same name.

What is interesting about the local geography?

The coast is very indented - a bunch of small peninsulas, bays and islets, and Bozburun itself lies between the Aegean and Mediterranean seas. The Greek island of Symi can be seen from the west across the strait.

What can be seen here?

The ruins of ancient settlements are scattered on the peninsula - Bibassos, Gigassos, Kastabos, Timnos, Sirna, Tisanos, Fenix, Amos and Kasara. The highest point, Mount Karayuksek (formerly Phoenix), marked the beginning of the Rhodes Pass in ancient times.

And why is Aphrodite here?

The cape at the very edge of the peninsula was called Aphrodisias in ancient times. So the goddess of love seems to have had her address here.

How to get here?

The landmark is Marmaris, from where the road leads to the peninsula past the neighboring Datcha Peninsula in the north. Then - to the town of Bozburun, which gave the name to the entire area.
