What are these lakes and where are they?
Banderishki Lakes are a large group of glacial lakes in the Pirin Mountains in southwestern Bulgaria. They lie in the valley of Banderitsa, from which the river of the same name originates.
How many lakes are there really?
As many as seventeen, but only five were given names - the rest remained nameless. The total area of the group is about 127 hectares.
At what height are they?
From 2062 m (Lake Oko, the lowest) to 2322 m (Lake Frog, the highest). That is, the legs will have to work regardless of the route.
What is worth seeing from the five named lakes?
Rybne Banderishko - the largest in terms of area and good for fishing; Long - the deepest (10 m) and 450 m long; The eye is the smallest, round in shape, lying above the predatory Whirlwind. Vikhren, the highest peak of Pirin rises above Long Lake.
When to go here and is the water warm?
The heat in the mountains is short: in July, the water warms up to only 10-12 degrees, so swimming is better for the hardened. Summer is the safest time for hiking in the highlands.
