Mermera
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Marble and what is its height?
This is a mountain peak in the central part of Rila in the south-west of Bulgaria, 2602 meters high. The name comes from the marble that makes up its whitish slopes, so the Bulgarians also call the peak Mramorets.
Where exactly is it located?
The peak sits on the Marmera ridge, branching off from the main Rylets ridge, already within the Rila Monastery nature park. Nearby is a smaller neighbor - Malak Marble with a height of 2586 meters.
How to get there?
The fastest - about 1.5 hours from the Rybni Ezera hut. You can climb from the Mermersky Preslap saddle along the ridge or in the summer from Blue Lake or Lake Mermera. If you start from the Rila Monastery through the valley of the Iliina River, allow about 7 hours.
What is interesting to see nearby?
All around is full of water: to the north lies Lake Mermera, and to the south - four Karaomerichka lakes, among which Blakytne stands out. The slopes are covered with mountain slaty pine, which thickens towards the bottom.
What is the peak remembered for?
By its shape, it has a clear pyramidal top, which is difficult to confuse with the neighboring humps. The white marble on the top gave the mountain its name.
