Lobuche
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Lobuche and how high is this mountain?
This is a six-thousander Himalayan peak in Nepal, consisting of two peaks - Eastern (6119 m) and Western (6145 m). They are separated by a deep ridge, so formally they are two separate mountains, not one.
Where is Lobuche?
In the Khumbu region of eastern Nepal, not far from the Khumbu Glacier. This is the same area through which the road to Everest Base Camp passes, so there is no shortage of climbers and trekkers.
Do they confuse Lobuche-East with Lobuche-West?
Yes, and quite often. The two peaks stand next to each other and are similar, so the Eastern one is often mistaken for the Western one. If you want to show off your ascent, specify which peak you climbed.
When was Lobuche conquered for the first time?
On April 25, 1984, Lawrence Nilson and Sherpa Ang Gyaltsen were the first to successfully climb Lobuche-Skhedna. By the standards of the Himalayas, it is relatively recent.
