This report is about the tour: Wild Gorgany 🗓 August 21, 2016
Before this hike, I only went to one, also with OutdoorUkraine, the Highest Peaks. Compared to it, this hike turned out to be more “wild” (it’s not for nothing that it’s written in the title). The trekking itself was easier in some places, more difficult in others, but overall about the same complexity. The only thing is that there were more walks on stones, both small and huge.
Unfortunately, we were less lucky with the weather than last time; one day we were caught in a downpour, and then it was cold and heavily foggy. Because of the same fog, we couldn’t see the beauty from the tops, but we felt like the heroes of the cartoon “Hedgehog in the Fog,” especially when someone went 30 meters ahead and was no longer visible.
I think one of the most important tips for this hike is this: “Take good shoes!” Of course, my sneakers withstood this hike, but all the dew and puddles instantly penetrated through the mesh, and after slipping into mountain streams, I walked around with wet feet all day. It was also not very comfortable to walk on the stones, especially after the rain, when they were slippery...
Another tip - do not take a wide backpack (where the pockets are on the sides), because... The hike is wild and vegetation often obscures the paths. So, getting caught on branches with parts of the backpack was a piece of cake. Also, you shouldn’t attach anything to your backpack for the same reasons.
This hike was also distinguished by the small number of people. After the popular Montenegrin ridge, it was almost a shock for me Sometimes we didn’t meet people for the whole day. There are also these stones and small paths that have already been covered by tree branches - you feel like the hero of some adventure film on uninhabited lands. By the way, what a surprise it was for us to meet a dog after such silence on the top of the mountain! We arrived, and she lay there as if nothing had happened. What to do - I had to feed him sausage)
It seems that everything I wanted to say about this trip. Good luck to you!
