Winter sleeping bag Bergson Camper 3

Winter sleeping bag Bergson Camper 3

In the fall of 2005, I bought two Bergson Camper 3 winter sleeping bags. These are excellent sleeping bags, but they cannot be called universal. Camper 3 is an inexpensive sleeping bag (about $50), very warm (up to -25), very large and... heavy. Over the two years of operation, I have accumulated some thoughts that I will share.

It is not for nothing that this winter sleeping bag received the name Camper (Camp - camp, base). This emphasizes that it is intended, first of all, for use in stationary conditions: mountain camps, winter huts, long-term stops, etc.
It is assumed that no one will run through the mountains with this sleeping bag in their backpack. They will drop him off at the base once and spend the winter comfortably.
Why comfort?

Warm.

Firstly, Camper is very warm. The manufacturer indicated the maximum temperature at -11, but in reality it is much warmer (up to -25 at least). The most common insulation was used (Insuloft - a slightly improved synthetic padding polyester), but in abundance.
(500g/m2). As a result, we have a sleeping bag that is lush and soft, like a feather bed.

Large and roomy.

Secondly, its width is 90 centimeters (compare with 75 centimeters for conventional models). Camper is a sleeping bag for big people. If desired, you can fit two people in there (jacket). In such a sleeping bag you will not feel claustrophobic. Stitching together two of these winter sleeping bags, we managed to sleep four of us, and in a two-person tent. It is in stitching mode that it makes sense to take Bergson Campers on a real hike. Then per person there is not 3 kg of sleeping junk, but about two. The blankets fit together quite easily, and unlike “mummies”, there are no cold joints in the middle.

Bulky.

You need to think in advance about how you will wear THIS. The fact is that even a Camper compressed in a compression bag takes up about 35 liters. This is such a plump cylinder with a diameter of 30 cm and a length of 50 cm. Stuffing it into a backpack is not so easy.
Actually, with the help of my legs and some mother, I managed to stuff two of these sleeping bags and a whole bunch of clothes and equipment into a 90-liter backpack.
By the way, the compression bags that come with the Bergson Camper 3 are not made very reliably. Already on the 3rd day of the hike, I spent half the morning with a needle and thread, repairing unraveling seams. The sleeping bag itself is sewn quite well, the Chinese did their best (Bergson is a Polish company).
It is not as easy to tighten the hood tightly as in mummy sleeping bags, but the thermal collar works perfectly - cold air will not break through.
The inner surface of the sleeping bag is pleasant to the touch, does not slip or stick. Due to its significant thickness, condensation will take a long time to reach you.
