What is Terek and where does it flow?
This is a mountain river about 620 km long. It begins on the southern slopes of the Caucasus near Kazbek, and then passes through Georgia, North Ossetia, Ingushetia, Chechnya and Dagestan until it reaches the Caspian Sea.
Where does the river originate?
The leak is somewhere at an altitude of 2713 m near Mount Kazbek. Terek is fed mainly by glaciers (there are as many as 32 of them in the upper reaches) and rains, so the water here is icy even in summer.
Where does the Terek flow?
In the Agrakhan Bay of the Caspian Sea, where the river spreads out in a large delta with an area of about 4000 km². On the way, she still manages to water the irrigation canals.
When is the river at its fullest?
The peak is at the end of July - beginning of August, when the glaciers melt in the mountains. At the same time, Terek is the turbidest: it drags up to 26 million tons of sand and soil in a year, so don't expect clear water.
Is there fish in Terek?
There is, and not bad: salmon, trout, carp, zander. So fishermen will find something to do here - if they survive the cold of the mountain water.
