Blue Lake (Goluboe Ozero)
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Blue Lake in Crimea?
This is not quite a lake, but a small overflow of the Auzun-Uzen River in a rocky limestone bed, in the lower reaches. So if you were expecting a smooth body of water, it's more like a cold mountain puddle with character.
Where is it and how to get there?
Bakhchysarai district, the lower reaches of the Auzun-Uzenya, which flows through the Great Canyon of the Crimea through the reserve of the same name. Access - along the path along the river along with the rest of the tourists heading deep into the canyon.
Can you swim there?
You can, but be prepared: the water stays around 9-11 degrees even in summer. Locals and tourists bathe, but the screeching above the water is the usual music here.
Why is it called the Lake of Love?
It's a kind of romantic second name that visitors have attached to it. What exactly makes one fall in love - cold water or a landscape - the story is delicately silent.
What else to see nearby?
On the same river there is the Bath of Youth - the deepest erosive depression in the channel, where people who want to refresh themselves like to climb. The logical next point of the canyon walk.
