FAQFrequently asked questions

What is Kulu Valley and where is it?

This is a wide river valley in northern India, in the state of Himachal Pradesh. It was carved by the Beas River on the stretch between the cities of Manali and Larji, and it is supported on the sides by three mountain ranges - the Pir Panjal, the Lesser Himalayas and the Greater Himalayas.

At what height is the valley?

The town of Kullu, the heart of the valley, sits at an altitude of about 1,279 m above sea level, on the banks of the Beas River. The nearby Himalayan peaks themselves rise much higher.

How to get there?

The nearest airport is in Bhuntara, some 10 km south of Kulu. It's about 497 km from Delhi to the valley, so most travel by land over the mountains.

What is worth seeing?

The slopes are covered with pine and deodar forests, endless apple orchards, old temples and picturesque towns are scattered between them - Manali, Naggar with a castle, Bhuntar. The valley is increasingly being discovered by ski tour lovers on the surrounding peaks.

Is this place old?

Totally. Back in 634-635, the Buddhist monk Xuanzang visited here and described a fertile land with dozens of monasteries. And the Raghunath temple in Kula was founded in 1650, bringing here a statue of the god Rama.
