Omu Peak
FAQFrequently asked questions
What is Mount Omu and how high is it?
This is the highest point of the Buceji massif in the Romanian Carpathians, about 2505 meters. The top is flat and sprawling, and the difference in numbers (up to 2,514 m) is provided by a rock several meters high at the very top.
Is there a place to rest at the top?
Yes, there is the Omu wild boar shelter here - the highest mountain predator in all the Carpathians. It has 30 seats and a buffet, but without electricity or running water, so don't count on luxury. Open from March to November.
How to get to Omu and Bucheji Plateau?
The most convenient way is through the town of Bushen in the Prahova valley: the cable car takes you from the Silva Hotel to the Babele lodge above, and then on foot. Bushen itself is the starting point of the most popular routes of the massif.
What is interesting to see on the way?
On the plateau, wind and rain carved out of the rocks whimsical figures - the Sphinx and Babele (Women). The path to the top runs right past them.
When is the best time to go?
The carnivore is open from March to November, so the warm half of the year is the safest time for hiking. In winter, skiing and sledding in the nearby Sinaia and Bushen is preferred here, rather than a walk to the bare peak.
