What is Jotungheimen and why is it interesting?
This is a mountain massif in the south of Norway with an area of about 3500 square meters. km, part of the Scandinavian Mountains. The name translates as the home of the giants - and they are not shy here: all 29 of Norway's highest peaks are gathered in this area.
What is the highest mountain in Jotunheimen?
Halhöpiggen - 2469 meters, the highest point in Norway and all of Northern Europe. Nearby is the Glittertinn, which is also one of the two highest peaks in the region.
Where is it and how to get there?
The massif lies in the provinces of Innlandet and Vestlann, on the old border between Opplann and Sogn og Fürane. It is convenient to orientate yourself to Lake Guienne, from which the main routes start.
What routes should be taken?
The Norwegian Tourist Association maintains more than 50 marked trails. The most popular is Besseggen, which runs along a sharp ridge above Lake Guienne; the Gurrungane group of sharp peaks is also worth noting.

In addition to glaciers and alpine permafrost, archaeologists pulled out from under the snow a leather shoe about 3,800 years old and an arrowhead from the Viking era, which is about 1,500 years old. The ice melts - the story emerges.
