Sunrise Hotel, Antalya

Sunrise Hotel, Antalya

The Sunrise Hotel in Antalya is inexpensive and very modest. We often stop here before hiking the Lycian Way.

Advantages: convenient location (Kaleici, next to the tram), low price ($10 per person per night), large number of rooms (there are always free rooms), you can use the kitchen on the roof and thereby save on restaurants, gorgeous view from the roof terrace, really hot water in the shower.

Disadvantages: every morning a muezzin from a neighboring mosque yells through the window, unstable WiFi signal, shabby walls, broken doors and other consequences of the budget.

How to find Sunrise Hotel

Experience has shown that finding a hotel without the help of locals or a map is not the easiest task. Many tourists spent hours circling the old city in search of “home.” Therefore, take orientation seriously. On the other hand, don't panic. If you conscientiously study my instructions and be careful, you will easily find everything.

First, study the map thoroughly, print it, save it to your phone. Not only the hotel is marked here, but also important landmarks and infrastructure: transport stops, shops, currency exchange, nearby attractions and beaches.

The large purple area on the map is the so-called "old town" or Kaleici. In ancient times it was surrounded by a fortress wall. Some fragments of the wall can still be seen today. One of them is the famous Hadrian's Gate (Roman Emperor). On the map there is a blue route leading from the hotel to the gate.

I'm telling you about walls and gates for a reason. Understanding the "logic" of the city will help you find your way. So, inside the old city a labyrinth of intricate little streets awaits you. It’s interesting to stroll there leisurely, but it’s not convenient to move around purposefully. When you are looking for a hotel for the first time, do not take a shortcut through the old city, do not enter it anywhere, use the recommended route and recommended “entry points”:)

The road from the barrier to the hotel

The fortress walls around the old city have almost disappeared, however, the number of “entrances”, i.e. There are very few streets leading into Kaleici. Our hotel is located quite close to one of these entrances. On the map it is marked with a red exclamation mark (the “barrier” point).

The photo shows not only the hotel (the purple building peeking out from behind the mosque), but also the tram rails surrounding the old city (one of Antalya's two tram lines). A nostalgic retro tram rides along them, which is very different from the modern AntRay, which you will most likely take from the airport.

So we crossed the rails, carefully crossed the road and found ourselves near the barrier. There are always taxi drivers on duty here; if you are late for the airport, do not try to call a taxi to the hotel, but immediately run here.

Look closely and behind the minaret of the mosque you can see the terrace and sign of the Sunrise Hotel.

We pass the mosque and the street hookah bar Divan Cafe (their barkers will definitely invite you to come in). Immediately behind the hookah bar, on the left, on a small hill behind a low fence, the “parking” of our hotel begins. This is a tiny patch of land on which, in addition to the manager’s car, you can find armchairs in which one of the hotel servants (they are also members of the manager’s family) often sits.

The entrance to the hotel is on the right side of the facade. Immediately behind the door is the desk of the administrator on duty.

You are there! Tell the person on duty the name of the instructor and they will check you in.

Hotel staff

Firstly, it is useful to know the manager by sight. His name is Hasan. He speaks a little English. Hasan loves taking selfies with tourists and posts them on Facebook. Smile!

If the language barrier turns out to be insurmountable, then Hassan’s brother Orhan can come to the rescue. He knows Russian.

How to get to the hotel from the AntRay tram stop

The AntRay tram line connects the center of Antalya with the bus station and the airport (they are located at different ends of the city). This route is indicated on the map with a green line.

  1. No matter where you are coming from, you need to get off the tram at the İsmetpaşa (Ismet Pasha)
  2. stop Walk along Ismet Pasha Street 50 meters to the South-South-East until the intersection with Cumhuriyet Street. Here the tram rails of the Antray line turn 90 degrees and go to the right. We don't need to go there.
  3. Cross the intersection still heading South-South-East.
  4. Walk 100 meters SE along Ataturk Avenue. It's more like a boulevard with palm trees in the middle and a retro tram line.
  5. Turn 90 degrees to the right, in front of you is Mescit Street and a barrier (exclamation mark on the map). The further path from the barrier to the hotel is described in detail at the beginning of this article.
  6. Go 110 meters SW on Mescit Street. Our hotel will be on the right.

How to get to the hotel from bus stop 600

Just in case, I’ll describe the route to the hotel from bus stop 600 (coming from the airport). This route is marked with a red line on the map.

  1. cross the road using an overpass with an escalator.
  2. go back (relative to the direction of the bus) 350 meters to the large Mark Antalya shopping center
  3. find tram rails in front of Mark Antalya and go along them to the right (to the South)
  4. when after 200 meters the rails turn left, continue moving straight along the pedestrian street Sharampol
  5. walk along Charampol (more 500 meters) to a small square with a “Roman” statue (like an emperor with a spear) and an old clock tower
  6. cross the square, the road and the “retro tram” tracks.
  7. turn left and walk 100 meters along the tram lines paths.
  8. turn right into the narrow street with UMBRELLA. In this street, the entire “floor” is lined with restaurant tables, and the entire “ceiling” is hung with colorful umbrellas.
  9. after 100 meters, at the end of the umbrella street, turn right. There are 70 meters left to the hotel, don’t miss it!
  10. First you will pass a large mosque that is hardly noticeable to the eye. IMMEDIATELY behind it there will be a street hookah bar with very sociable barkers.
  11. Immediately behind the hookah bar, on the left on a small hill is the parking yard of our hotel. Squeeze among the cars and go to the reception desk.
