Crimean mountains go as three ridges from Sebastopol to Feodosia and their length is 150 km. Lower ridges create Foothills, devided into separate areas with picturesque river valleys. The Main Ridge resembles a solid barrier, which almost all the way is 1 km and more high. The highest point of the Crimean mountains is Roman-Kosh - 1545 m. Unlike southern part of the peninsula, its northern, western and eastern regions are valleys with low hills. Climate. Southern coast of Crimea from Aiya Cape on the west up to the Kara-Dag mountain on the east is called submediterranean for the main features of its climate (sunshine, air temperature, precipitation rate), vegetation and animal worlds resemble the coast of the Mediterranean, subtropical region. It starts in the middle of May and finishes at the end of September; the Fall has a lot of warm days and even weeks, and starting from the middle of October there rains a lot. Winter looks like the Fall, but high in mountains there is magic: dry frosty air, clean and furry snow - many crimean people during holidays go onto Angarskiy Pass and Ai-Petri mountains. During spring sea-water near Yalta and Alushta unlike western or eastern sea-side is very slow to heat. That's the reason why March and April are far more beautiful in western Crimea and luxuriantly blooming Foothills area. It is worth remembering that dry subtropical regions have the most convenient climate for europeans. Rare vegetation and animals, unique landscapes, of which there are so many in Crimea, are under the guard of official Reserve territories. Their general area is about 700 square km. It's more than 2,5% of all the crimean territory and makes one of the highest indicators of reserves saturation for Ukraine and post-USSR countries. Many of reserved territories are visited regularly by tourists so your careful attitude towards nature is required |
