Nicholas the marine
The cathedral of Nicholas the Marine was built in 1857-1859 by architect Avdeyev. It is a tombstone of all the defenders of Sevastopol. The works of decoration were finished in 1870. The cathedral presents a twenty-seven meter high pyramid that is crowned with a granite cross. The interior was painted by Vasilyev, Korneyev, Litovchenko, the marble fretted iconostasis was made by sculptor Bonanni, the ornamental painting with gilding - by Izelli, the bronze works - by Moran.  In 1887-1893 the painting was replaced with the mosaic in the workshop of Salviatti according to the pictures of Protopopov and pasteboard replicas. The area of the inlay was 644 square meters. The restoration of the facades of the building, that had been damaged during the Great Patriotic War, was finished in 1981.
