In 1964 the plain Crimea parks - the monuments of landscape art were taken under protection. Saki spa park, was layed out in 1890-1892, occupies the area of 23 hectares. Oktyabrsky forest-park spread out in the flood-lands of Salgir river on the area of more than 80 hectares. The plantations of English oak, honey locust, false acacia, two kinds of ash, sugar maple predominate there. Elm, poplar, lime, Cornelian cherry grow there. Separate old oaks reach 25-27 metres of height. The age of the highest one is more than 200 years, that is it has been growing there long before the forest-park foundation. It is accounted that in the past on Salgir valley the oak valley-like was growing. The oak giant from Oktyabrsky forest-park can be the relic of such forest. |
