Bakla

Bakla
Bakla is one of the notable and beautiful places in Crimea. It is 18 kilometres away from Simferopol. It lies on the south edge of Interior ridge. Steep and precipitous crests of two cuesta ridge overhang the vast valley, further to the east the top of Crimean Main ridge are seen at the distance.

The nature shows alive example of gradual relief changes under influence of external earth powers during millions of years. What the sculptures had not been made by nature architect!

At the edge of the mountain you can see the enormous 40-metres sphinx.

A bit lower there are rows of cells - the specimens of honeycomb weathering of rocks. There are large and small niches, pockets and grottos... Oak, Christ's-thorn, rose, hawthorn and Cornelian cherry thickets taking turns with glades enrich the landscape.

There you can see 15 species of orchids and a couple of them are very rare. On the rocky hills of reserving stow, in 300-metres height, in the dark Middle Ages people had set the fortification Bakla.

It existed ten centuries (4-8 cc.) and was destroyed by nomadic Tatar hords. Time had not spare the ground buildings.

But artificial caves had been preserved till our days. There are over one hundred of them. The Grain pits made in rocks, the grooves for water cathing, steps, cave church had been also preserved.
