Cave Chokurcha

This cave is one of the most ancient proofs of the human life in the Crimea. It is situated in the outskirts of Simferopol, in the valley of the river Maly Salgir. Amazing that the entrance of Chokurcha is turned to the north.

That's an exeptional phenomenon for the cave settlements of the primeval people. The deep of the cave reaches 15 metres and the width - for about 7 metres. Chokurcha has become famous as a halting place of the human beings of the paleolithic period.

During the lasting for many years excavations numerous bones and tusks of the young mammoths and flint instruments were discovered under the two metres' layer of ground. On the ceiling of the cave's vault marvelous gouged pictureswere washed from the soot. Sun with the rays, giantic pictures of the mammoth and the fish were among them.

Numerous bones of other extinct animals were found in the cave. Judging for the finds 50 thousand years ago bears, hyena, primeval bull, wild horse, giant deer, antelope and even rhinoceros dwelled in the foothills of the Crimea.
